MUSKEGON, MI — It has survived a devastating theater fire, decades of neglect, and the total end of the silent film era. Today, the 1927 Barton Theater Pipe Organ inside the Frauenthal Center is one of the last remaining instruments of its kind in the world still playing in its original home.
A newly released local public access video offers a unique, five-minute look at this mechanical marvel in action. The video features a static shot of the historic console "playing itself" to a magnificent performance of Disney's Aladdin Medley by master theater organist Dave Wickerham.
As the phantom keys move to the music, on-screen text overlays track the organ's incredible journey—from its narrow escape from the 1928 Regent Theater fire to its meticulously handcrafted restoration by local volunteers.
