VOLUNTEER FOR DENTAL
The Volunteer For Dental program offers dental care and oral health education to low-income, uninsured adults in exchange for volunteer service. This is a pay-it-forward program! Those who qualify complete volunteer work in the community and then a local private dentist volunteers to provide the dental care in their dental office for free. To qualify for the program, you must: 1. Be a Muskegon or Oceana County resident 2. Not have dental insurance 3. Qualify financially by being 250% of poverty or less Once a person qualifies and is registered as a participant they can start volunteering and the hours will count toward the program. They must also attend a dental health class at least one time to learn how to care for their teeth. Once the class is completed and they’ve turned in at least 3 volunteer hours they can get their first dental appointment which is usually an initial exam and x-rays. When we receive their treatment plan from the dentist we will figure out how many volunteer hours they need to get each dental service. Appointments will be scheduled as they turn in their volunteer hours. Volunteer hours must be completed before a service can be provided. The program offers basic dental services including: x-rays, exams, fillings, tooth removal, cleanings, treatment for gum disease and sometimes root canals. We offer limited denture services through the senior millage. We do not offer cosmetic services or expensive restorations such as crowns, bridges, and implants. We also have a dental information center where all community members can get answers to their dental related questions and referrals to help them find a dental home.
